About

Our Organization
The United Farmers Cooperative is a Refugee led organization founded in 2019 by GERARD Tiko’or Akenji, a refugee committed to furthering sustainable development.
UNIFARM supports both the refugees and host communities to take action in implementing human development initiatives. UNIFARM promotes organic agriculture, women’s empowerment, youth development, education, and health.
UNIFARM is dedicated to refugees initiatives that community beneficiaries determine and manage:
-
Sustainable agriculture: Nurseries of fruit trees and wild medicinal plants, irrigation efficiency, technical skills building, carbon sequestration, and commercialization
-
Education: school infrastructure, gardens and environmental stewardship
-
Health: Clean drinking water and waste management
-
Women’s and youth empowerment: self discovery, human rights, and cooperative development
-
Capacity building: Participatory planning and project, organizational, and environmental management
Our Story
GERARD Tiko'or Akenji, CEO and Founder of Unifarm, created this organization to help the refugees get access to resources to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle. Akenji had escaped the Cameroonian Civil War in 2017 after facing many horrors. After escaping he dedicated his time and effort into building UNIFARM to help other refugees like him. Once the foundation was built he recruited others like himself who wanted to help the people into his organization.
